Early settlers - Exploitation of natural resources

- Whaling and hunting seals along the Sydney harbour coastline
- This was popular during this time as it promoted trading
- estimated that by 1820, over 100000 seals and 150000 whales had been killed
- between 1820 and 1888 there where more than 800 ships hunting up and down the coast
- whaling was internationally banned in 1982
