The murder of Sir Thomas Overbury by Carr and his wife after opposing their marriage.
Who was George Villiers ?
One of James’ favourites. Future Duke of Buckingham. Became Lord Admiral and declared war on Spain and France when Charles was in power.
What was the Subsidy act ?
Charles and Buckingham attempting to get money for war from Parliament after their trip to Madrid where Charles failed to ‘woo’ the Infanta.
What was the statue of monopolies ?
A bill limiting the Kings right to make grants to individuals. An attack on James’ prerogative.
