-Mix of individual and collectivism
Representative Government
Voters select someone to represent them to the government
Responsible Government
Government must respond to the wishes of the people or else they get ejected
Direct Democracy
Voting directly to a question
ex: Should Quebec separate from Canada?

Most Votes Wins
Proportional Democracy
Percentage of vote = amount of power in government
ex: 54% votes = 54% total seats
Interest/Lobby Groups
Informs the public and pressures the government
Majority Government
More than +1 of the seat in the government
Minority Government
Most of the seats but less than 50%
Party Solidarity
Support the party publicly or get kicked out
Referendum
same as direct democracy

-An area that has a government representative
-Must be based on equal population for democracy to be fair

Majority must rule

-Protects us from our gov’t turning into a dictatorship and abusing the citizens
-Freedom of speech, press, protest, to move freely and religion
War Measures Act
Government temporarily suspending out rights for our security or desperation (war)
Emergencies Act
-New name of War Measures Act
-Suspend Canadian rights for emergencies
Anti-Terrorist Act
Allows the government to have extra power to spy on our private conversations in order to fight terrorism
Monarchy
The Head of State is a King a Queen (Royalty)
ex: Queen Elizabeeth II or King Charles III of England
Republic
A form of deemocracy in which the lead is called a president
