Reinforcement Schedules Flashcards
Continuous Reinforcement Schedule
Each response gets reinforcement
intermittent
Some responses get reinforcement
Extinction
No response gets Reinforcement
Fixed Ratio INT
: A behavior is reinforced after it has occurred a specified number of times
Variable Ratio INT
A behavior is reinforced after it has occurred a certain average number of times
Fixed interval
A behavior is reinforced after the first occurrence after a specific period of time
Variable interval
A behavior is reinforced after the first occurrence after an average amount of time
Advantages of Intermittent schedules
- Prevents satiation: too much Sr reduces motivation to engage in behavior.
- Promotes resistance to EXT: Behavior will persist and maintain in the absence of Sr; “partial or intermittent reinforcement effect.
Disadvantages of Intermittent Schedules
Behavior will decrease or stop if schedule is thinned too much or too quickly (“ratio strain”)
Multiple Schedule
2 or more simple schedules of reinforcement; each schedule accompanied by a distinct stimulus
Mixed Schedule
2 or more simples alternate without discriminative stimuli
Chain Schedule
2 or more simple schedules presented simultaneously; each accompanied by a distinct stimulus
Concurrent schedule:
2 or more simple schedules are available at once
Tandem Schedule
2 or more simple schedules presented simultaneously; each accompanied by
No SD
