Q

shaker’s

A

use for: poor hyolaryngeal excursion and UES opening
-lift head while keeping shoulder flat on floor (10-30 times), then sustained for 30 seconds (6 weeks)
-works anterior neck muscles and muscles that lift larynx, improves hyloryngeal excursion and UES opening
(robbins, 2007): strengthens tongue and swallow in CVA patients

Q

mendelseohn maneuver

A

(Kahrilas et al)

  • focus on adam’s apple, lift as high as you can, hold for a few senconds before letting it drop
  • results in higher laryngeal elevation, greater amplitude of structural movement,s longer UES opening

Q

EFFORTFUL SWALLOW

A
  • (Logemann, 1990)
  • squeeze tongue and throat muscles and hold while swallowing
  • results in better tongue base retraction, pharyngeal squeeze, overall stronger swallow (compens and rehab)
