CN V-Trigeminal
Disordered: decreased jaw movements, decreased face, mouth and jaw sensation
Swallow symptoms: decreased mastication and oral containment
Speech symptoms: unilateral: nothing, bilateral: decreased articulatory precision
CN VII- Facial
Deficit: decreased facial movement and sensation, increased salivation
Swallow symptoms: residual in lateral channels, drooling
Speech symptoms: mild artic distortion (b,p,f,v)
CN VIII-Acoustic
Deficits: decreased hearing and balance
Swallow symptoms: none
Speech symptoms: distorted resonance, decreased artic precision of all sounds eventually
CN IX: Glossopharyngeal
Deficits: Delayed pharyngeal triggers, decreased velopharyngeal closure, decreased laryngeal elevation
Swallow symptoms: aspiration before and during the swallow
Speech symptoms: hypernasality
CN X- Vagus
Deficits: decreased palatal, pharyngeal, laryngeal excursion, decreased TVC abduction and/or adduction, decreased pharyngeal sensation
Swallow symptoms: residue in vallecula, posterior pharyngeal wall, pyriform sinuses; aspiration during or after the swallow, poor cough reflex
Speech symptoms: hypernasality, breathiness, hoarseness, decreased pitch range, decreased loudness
CN XII-Hypoglossal
Deficits: decreased lingual range of motion and strength
Swallow symptoms: decreased bolus consolidation, decreased AP movement of bolus, oral residue
Speech symptoms: imprecise articulation
