Society decides if have a disability
Lots of options for independent living (assistive devices)
Believes nothing should be a barrier
BEST FOR FREEDOM!!!!

Assistive devices & better access (eg: wheelchair ramps)
What is the role of ‘Pre-morbid Personality’ in rehab?
Client’s beliefs impact how they will respond
- If motivated by present, will procrastinate
- If motivated by future, will be motivated by goal
How can we help a client cope with the stress & challenges of hospitalization?
- Get to know client
- Involve client
- Introduce to similar people
- Positive attitude
What is ‘The Sick Role’ in different cultures?
Family rallies around & takes care of client
They do everything for the client
What are ‘Normalization Principles’?
Trying to mimic a ‘normal’ life
Normal routine
Normal every day… you get up, get dressed, have breakfast
