Q

Where can enhancers be located?

A

ANYWHERE, basically!

UPSTREAM from promoter
DOWNSTREAM from promoter
WITHIN AN INTRON
DOWNSTREAM OF THE FINAL EXON OF THE GENE

Q

In procaryotes, how does an enhancer(rare)/proximal-promoter element affect the transcription of a gene?

A

The “enhancer” AFFECTS ALL OF THE EXONS encoded in the gene. There is no RNA processing (operons).

Q

What is the effect of an enhancer?

A

It STIMULATES TRANSCRIPTION of a gene. They are not essential for transcription, they just “boost” it.
