Regulation of Transcription and Translation Flashcards

Q

How does oestrogen affect gene transcription?

A

-Oestrogen is a lipid-soluble molecule (Allowing it to diffuse through the cell surface membrane)
-Oestrogen binds with a receptor molecule of a transcription factor
-Oestrogen changes the shape of the DNA binding site on the transcriptional factor which can now bind to DNA
-Transcriptional factor can now enter the nucleus through a nuclear pore and bind to specific base sequences on DNA
-Combination of the transcriptional factor with DNA stimulates the transcription of gene that makes up DNA portion
