Regional Anatomy: Pectoral Region Flashcards
What does the cylindrical thorax consist of?
A wall, two pleural cavities, lungs, mediastinum
What does the pectoral region consist of?
Superficial compartment containing skin, superficial fascia, and breasts. Also a deep compartment containing muscles and associated structures
Innervation of the Breast
Anterior and lateral cutaneous branches of second to sixth intercostal nerves. Nipple innervated by fourth intercostal nerve.
Lymphatic Drainage of Breast
75% to axillary nodes, remaining drainage to parasternal and intercostal
Origin of Pec Major
Medial half of clavicle and anterior surface of sternum, first seven costal cartilages, aponeurosis of external oblique
Insertion of Pec Major
Lateral lip of intertubercular sulcus of humerus
Innervation of Pec Major
Medial and Lateral Pectoral Nerves
Function of Pec Major
Adduction, medial rotation, flexion of humerus at shoulder joint
Origin of Subclavius
Rib I at jxn b/t rib and costal cartilage
Insertion of Subclavius
Groove on inferior surface of middle third of clavicle
Innervation of Subclavius
Nerve to Subclavius
Function of Subclavius
Pulls clavicle medially to stabilize sternoclavicular joint
Origin of Pec Minor
Anterior surfaces of 3rd, 4th, and 5th ribs, and deep fascia overlying related intercostal spaces
Insertion of Pec Minor
Coracoid process of scapula
Innervation of Pec Minor
Medial pectoral nerves
