The UK is rare in that it pledges 0.7% of its GDP to international aid (USA is the world’s biggest aid donor country but only donates 0.17%). In 2016, the UK invested £900 million in improving refugee camps in Syria so people felt less impelled to move.

Money has to be spent on access for these people to schools and healthcare. Djanogly City Academy has 7 specialist EAL staff. Forest Fields Primary has a 90% EAL rate amongst its pupils. Events such as Manchester Bombing and Oldham riots (in 2001) stoke fear about multicultural societies.
