Politics
Highly unstable. There was a coup in January 2012 and continuing warring in the N of the country with rebels/Tuareg tribesmen. The UN has a 15,000 strong peacekeeping force in the region. Mali is currently led by Ibrahim Keita.

500,000 people involved in circular migration a year. 229,000 internally displaced.
148,000 in other neighbouring countries.
Only 2.7% of migrants (according to Ibrahim Keita) live in Europe. This is below the figure of 10-15% given in Item 4.

65% of Mali is a desert with the North of the country receiving 180mm of rain per year. Average temperatures of 26.7.
