What is a refugee?
A refugee is a person unable or unwilling to return to their homeland for fear of persecution, based on reasons of race, religion , ethnicity or political opinion, or those who have been displaced forcibly by other factors, they have to be granted by refugee status
What is an Asylum Seeker?
A person who has left their country or origin and formally applied for asylum in another country but whose application has not yet been concluded
Where do refugees ‘tend’ to migrate to?
They tend to move to neighbouring countries with similar economic stature as they move out of fear rather than employment, they cannot afford to move into Europe
Negative impacts on destination country
They have to spend more money keeping migrants
May create tensions
Strains on resources e.e healthcare and education
