Refueling Abnormal Ops Flashcards
What are entry conditions for fuel handling accident?
What are entry conditions for transfer canal leak?
What major source of gaseious activity can be release from damaged spent fuel assembly?
Krypton 85 which is a beta emitter. Skin dose rates from Kr-85 are 100 times higher than whole body gamma dose rate.
What actions are taken if fuel assembly damage confirmed?
Make announcement to evacuate area, place assembly in safe location if fuel handling in progress unless radiological conditions necessitate leaving it suspended.
What actions are taken if transfer canal leak detected and fuel assemblies are stored outside reactor vessel or are in transit?
1) Set Containment Closure
2) Return assemblies to available position in reactor vessel
3) If fuel handling in progress and level dropping fast and unable to move to vessel, SRO evaluate placing assmebly in safest location.
4) If cannot be returned to vessel, ensure FTC level being maintained and transfer assemblies to SFP
What TS’s are applicable to refuel?
TS 3.9.1 Boron within required spec
TS 3.9.2 One source range operable in mode 6 and one additional source range monitor during core alterations. (If not, suspend core alts and changes in boron)
TS 3.9.3 Reactor Building Penetrations (Equipment hatch able to be closed, one door in each air lock and valve penetrations)
TS 3.9.4 DHR (High water level) - One DH loop operable in mode 6 with level > 23 ft
TS 3.9.5 DH (Low level) - 2 DH loops operable with one in operation when < 23 ft above fuel
TS 3.9.6 Refueling Canal Level - FTC level maintained greater than 23 ft above fuel during fuel movement
