Counter Depth

A
  • Standard fridges extend 33 inches from wall, counter depth is 26.75 inches from built in look (excluding door depths it is 24 inches)
    • Wider to compensate for space
    • Less expensive that built in but offers similar sleek counter design
    • Appliance manufacs offer counter depth options on vrious fridge usually for 10-20% increase in price

Internal and external water dispenser

A
  • Main difference is accessibility
    ○ One on insnide other on outside
    • Provides filtered water
    • Have 600 ml of cold water in reservoire
    • Dispenses room temp water once reservoire runs out
    • Eventually refills

Water Filter

  • All fridges with icemaker or water dispenser require filter
    • 2 types of filters:
      ○ Internal, external
    • Require replacement every 3-6 months
    • Have replacement indicator
    • External found on only fridges with icemaker and freezer
    • Internal on ice and water dispenser
    • Benefit of filter:
      ○ NSF international not for profit
      ○ Dedicated to safetu pub health, and environmental protection
    • Fun fact: turn off water supply before replacing filter
    • Usually takes 10 mins

Fridge Temps

A
  • Above 40 fh
    ○ Bacteria rapidly multiplies
    • Reccomended temp is between 35-40 degrees fh
      ○ Rule of thumb is to keep it at 37
    • Below 32 food starts to freeze
    • Keep freezer at 0 if you want to keep food frozen

Storing Fresh Produce

A
  • Crisper drawers: Store fruits and veggies under controlled humidity
    • Lets moist ir out when slid open
      ○ Good for onions, garlic, winter squash
    • When slide door closed:
      ○ Good for leafy greens, non leafy brassicas
      ○ Cucumbers, root veggies, celery, collards, kohlrabi, leeks, summer squash, peppers
    • Some veggies lose moisture quick and should be stored in plastic bags containers or wrapped
      ○ Beans, broccoli, cabbage carrots, caulifloweer, cucumber, lettuce etc…
    • Sensitivity to ethyline:
      ○ Chemical emitted by fruits and veggies
    • Effects of exposure:
      ○ Pitting and russetting (brown spots)
      ○ Yellow of broccoli buds
    • Odour absorption:
      ○ Some fruits and veghies emit odors which can effect taste of other fruits
