Refrigeration Flashcards
What are the 3 methods of heat transfer?
Conduction (direct contact), Convection (mass motion of molecules) and Radiation (electromagnetic radiation)
What is latent heat?
Where the state changes but the temperature remains the same.
What is sensible heat?
Where the temperature changes but the state stays the same.
What is superheat?
Every degree above a liquids boiling point.
What is subcooling?
Every degree below a liquids boiling point.
What is the name of the commonly used refrigerant and why do we use it?
R134A
It has a lower boiling point (-26.5 degrees) at atmospheric pressure. This means it will stay colder than the heat it is extracting from the system.
What are the components of the Refrigeration cycle?
Compressor
Condenser
Thermal Expansion Valve
Evaporator
