Refractive index and Snell's law Flashcards
1
Q
Refractive index, n
A
Speed of light in a vacuum, c/speed of light in that material, v
2
Q
Snell’s law
A
n=sin (i)/sin(r)
3
Q
Experiment to find the refractive index of a glass block
A
1) Place the block on a sheet of A4 paper and draw around the edges with a pencil.
2) Shine a concentrated light at the block.
3) Mark the incident and refracted rays.
4) Draw the normal line.
5) Measure the angle of incidence and the angle of refraction from the normal.
6) Use Snell’s law to calculate the refractive index.
