Refraction Flashcards
What is the refractive index of a material
The refractive index of a material is a measure of how easy it is for light to travel through it
What is the formula for the refractive index of a material
n=c/cs
Where s is the material
What does the higher the refractive index show?
The slower light can travel through it
The higher refractive index the denser the material
What happens to light when it enters a denser material?
The denser material has a higher refractive index so the light bends towards the normal
What is relative refractive index?
One of the two materials touch the boundary between them will have a refractive index dependent on the refractive indices of the two materials
What is the equation for relative refractive index?
n=sinø1/sinø2
