Reflexes And Milestones Flashcards
Clients head turns toward extended arm while opposing arm is flexed
7mo
Required for PC, separation of R/L side of body, GMC, FMC, MP, Coordination
If retained it can cause poor balance, decreased PC, decreased hw skills, inability to cross midline
Interventions: quad/WB activities, crossing midline activities, zombie marches, crawling while rotating head L/R and R/L
ATNR - asymmetrical tonic neck reflex
Extension and flexion of the neck while in quad
Promotes balance, crossing midline, GMC, separation of UE/LE
9-12 mo
Activities to integrate: crawling, lizard, hand-eye ax, WB/quad
If retained can demonstrates signs of hyperactivity, “ape” hands, decreased muscle tone, clumsy
STNR - symmetrical tonic neck reflex
“Startle” reflex
2-6 mo
Retained if extremities is ABduct when performed
Signs of retention = decreased balance sensitive, poor sleep, decreased focus/attention, motion sickness, easily startled
Activities to integrate: starfish, popcorn, proprioception, deep flexion activities, emotional regulation
MORO
Neck flexion = LE/UE flexion
Neck extension = LE/UE extension
“Superman”
6w-3y; 3y and up
Promotes separation of UE/LE (body awareness), GMC, FMC, PC, MP, muscle tone
Signs of retention = clumsy, disinterest in sports, decreased GM/FM skills
Can be caused by trauma, stress during pregnancy, or substance abuse
(Think of O)
TLR and LANDAU
Forward - 5-6 mo
Sideways - 7-8 mo
Backwards - 9-10
Extends UE when “pushed” forward, sideways, or backwards
Can impact MP, PC, body awareness
Protective extension reflex
Gross motor milestones
Fine motor milestones
Stages of play
Cognitive development
Stages of grasp/release
Stages of scissor skills
Stages of toileting
Stages of dressing
