Reflexes Flashcards
1
Q
What is the blinking reflex?
A
- a cranial reflex along the cranial nerves
- connected to the lower brain stem
- motor response to close the eyelids in response to bright light, touch or very loud sounds
2
Q
What is the knee-Jerk Reflex?
A
- a spinal reflex
- Tap stretches the patellar tendon
- This contracts the extensor muscle on the top of the thigh
- the frexor muscle on the bottom thigh relaxes on the motor neuron is inhibited
- the leg kicks
3
Q
Why are reflexes important for survival?
A
- Reflexes allow us to respond quickly to potential danger
- without having thinking
- allows our bodies to react automatically
4
Q
Where the knee-jerk reflex go to?
A
It goes through the spinal cord
5
Q
What pathway does the blinking reflex go to?
A
- it goes through the brain
6
Q
Are reflexes fast or slow?
A
- They are fast responses
7
Q
How many neurons reflex contain?
A
- one or two neurons
8
Q
Why do reflexes give survival advantages?
A
- They only contain one or two neurons which are the slowest parts of the nerve transmission.
