Reflex responses Flashcards
1
Q
How can reflex responses be leant?
A
A reflex response to a new stimulus can be learnt by introducing the secondary (new) stimulus in association with a pre-developed stimulus. This is called conditioning
2
Q
What are two examples of conditioning?
A
Pavlov’s dogs are an example produced from an experiment where Pavlov conditioned his dogs to salivate at a bell.
Another example is John B. Watson’s study of Albert who developed the response of crying when seeing a rat.

Q
Are all reflexes uncontrollable and unstoppable?
A
No, the brain can modify responses to overcome a response, ie not dropping a hot object. This is done via a neuron to the motor neuron of the reflex arc.
