Reflex Response Flashcards
Rooting
Movement of the tongue, mouth and head toward the stimulus with opening of the mouth
Suck-Swallow
Lip closure followed by strong, rhythmical suck and finally swallow
Moro
First phase = arm extension/abduction and hand opening.
Second phase = arm flexion/adduction.
Often accompanied by crying, shaking or tremors.
Traction
Complete flexion of both upper extremities including a grasp
Flexor Withdrawl
Withdrawal of the stimulated leg.
Crossed Extension
Opposite leg will flex and then follow with extension and adduction.
Plantar Grasp
Toe flexion
Palmar Grasp
Phase I = “catching” or a quick flexion and adduction of the arms.
Phase II = “holding” or reflexive grasp.
Placing (Legs)
Initial flexion of the hip, knee and ankle are followed by extension and foot being placed squarely on the table.
Placing (Arms)
Initial flexion of the entire arm is followed by extension of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and fingers to allow for upper extremity weight bearing.
Positive Support
Partial weight bearing with hips and knees slightly flexed (may observe plantarflexion, especially in premature infants)
Spontaneous Stepping
Rigid extension (co-contraction) of LE
(ATNR) Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex
Extension of the extremities on the face side with flexion of the extremities on the skull side
(Fencer’s position🤺)
(STNR) Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex
With head extension you will see UE extension and LE flexion.
With head flexion you will see UE flexion and LE extension.
(TLR-S) Tonic Labyrinthine Supine
Increased Extensor Tone
