reflection of light Flashcards
WHAT IS REFLECTION
It is when light bounces off an object
When we look at objects what are we seeing
We are seeing the light reflecting off them
Explain what is an incident ray
The ray of light that is gong to strike a surface
What is a reflected ray
The ray of light that bounces off an object
What is a normal
A reference line drawn perpendicular to the reflecting surface at te point where reflection occurs . It’s not a ray of light . Al measurements are taken from this line
.What is the angle of incidence
Angle between the incident ray and the normal
What is the Angle of reflection
The angle between the reflected ray and the normal
State the law of reflection
Law of Reflection : The angle of incidence and the angle of reflection are equal ( î = r)
Name the two types of reflectio
regular reflection
Diffuse ( scattered ) reflection
Explain what is regular reflection
On smooth and highly polished , all light is reflected in the same direction ,enabling you to see an image
Example: mirror
Explain and give examples of diffuse reflection
On rough surfaces , reflected light is scattered in many directions , you can’t see an image but te surface appears shiny or white
Example : sheet of paper , clouds
