Reflection Flashcards
What is the law of reflection?
Angle of incidence = angle of reflection
When can total internal reflection occur? Material
Only when the wave travels through a dense material towards a less dense substance.
When does total internal reflection occur? Angle
When the angle of incidence is larger than the critical angle for the particular material.
What is specular reflection?
When waves are reflected in a single direction by a smooth surface.
What is diffuse reflection?
When waves are reflected by a rough surface and the waves are reflected in all directions.
Why are the waves reflected in different directions in diffuse reflection?
The normal is not parallel and is different for each incident ray so angle of incident if different for each ray. Law of reflection applies.
