Main features of the catholic church
Lectern = everyone can see and hear the word of god
Altar = place of sacrifice where bread and wine are offered god , Christ is present at the altar
Crucifix = Jesus’ painful death to save humanity , visual reminder
Tabernacle= box where bread and wine are kept
Contrasting features and artefacts used by catholics
Altar and table = altar is where sacrifice takes place
Table is where people eat (last supper)
Crucifix and cross = crucifix shows how Jesus died on the cross for us
Cross shows how Jesus rose so he’s no longer present on the cross
How Jesus restored the relationship between god and humans
God gave humans free will and we are all born with the tendency to sin (original sin)
However Jesus led his life on earth completely obedient to god.
He suffered and died on the cross so that the relationship between us and god would be restored
The significance of Jesus ‘ death / burial

Salvation
Freedom from sin which allows humans too be with god eternally
Salvation in the past
Jesus’ death were essential to humanity’s salvation as he defeated sin and death
Present salvation
Salvation is an ongoing process, as people still have to choose to accept salvation and resist temptation from sin
Future salvation
Salvation will be completed at the end of time when the kingdom of gos is fully established as the power of sin will be fully destroyed
Redemption in the bible
Mark says how “he saved others”
The “the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom”
“Jesus breathed his last breath”
The importance of conscience for Christian’s
Voice of god is in our hears and soul
The more a person goes against their conscience the more they get away from being correct
Different Christian understanding of the Eucharist
Catholics = mass is the source and sum it of Christian life
Orthodox Christian’s = similar to catholics
Anglican Christian’s = spirit of Christ is received not the body
Quakers = don’t celebrate the Eucharist
Non- conformist = Christ is present in some bible readings
