Why did Scrooge pass Fred’s door 12 times ?
I- 1) anxious about Fred’s reaction he’s treated him badly in the past.
2) embarrassed/ guilt

C- dickens believes that the Christmas spirit of respect and kindness should be shown throughout the year and Scrooge is representing this for the readers
. He’s learned to treat all people including those of a lower status, with respect and kindness like Fezziwig.

He feels pity for the carol singing boy he treated badly- it reminds him of himself as a boy. Scrooge is starting to feel empathy which is necessary for him to change.
