Icing Conditions - AA definition
18.5.1 Definition of Icing Conditions▲
— OAT (on the ground and for takeoff) or TAT (inflight) is 10°C or below, and
— visible moisture in any form is present such as clouds, fog with visibility of one mile or less, rain, snow, sleet and ice crystals, or
— when operating on ramps, taxiways, or runways where surface snow, ice, standing water, or slush may be ingested by engines, freeze on engines, nacelles, or engine sensor probes.
Reasons to execute missed approach
Landing at nearest suitable airport when….
A landing will be made at the nearest suitable airport when:
• non-normal checklist includes a statement to land at the nearest suitable airport
or LAND ASAP
• only one AC power source is available
• only one hydraulic source is available
• smoke/fire which cannot immediately and positively be determined to be
eliminated/extinguished
• any situation the crew feels makes safety of continuing the flight questionable
RED Land ASAP =
If red LAND ASAP is part of the procedure, land as soon as possible at the NEAREST airport at which a SAFE landing can be made.
This would include consideration of the nearest destination, adequate or emergency airports.
Note: Red LAND ASAP information is applicable to a time-critical situation.
“Land it now” whether jet bridges exist, AA station exists, or not. On fire, etc situation
