A
- Ensured there was military support for a campaign.
- Wealthy men had to provide armour, sword, shield, horse, lance and dagger.
- Poor men had to bring at least a bow, 24 arrows a sword and dagger.
- These men had to serve for at least 40 days and were paid.

- Indentures used
