What is the recruitment process
For large businesses there is a formal recruitment process that needs to be followed
Job analysis - the process which identifies all the duties and requirements of the job
Job description - every job should have some form of job description. This explains the task involved in the job and the responsibility attached.
Person specification - this describes the skills, knowledge and experience needed by an individual.
Job advert - advertising the job
Shortlisting - identifying candidates that meet the requirements for the job
Interview - asking the candidates questions about them and the job in front on a panel or interviewer
Internal recruitment
The method involves finding someone already employed by an organisation to fill a vacancy.
Advantages
Cost is reduced
Applicants know the business and its methods
May motivate employees
Disadvantages
Less likelihood of new ideas and methods
Could demotivate some employees if not chosen
External recruitment
External recruitment means opening up a vacancy to a wider pool of candidates.
Advantages
Can find candidates with specific skills for the job
More ideas and innovation
Disadvantages
Can take time
Costly
Demotivate current employees
Interview
Interviews are best carried out by a panel consisting of a specialist personnel manager.
The objective of an interview is for the candidate to be able to explain their suitability for the job
Telephone interview
Telephone interview are interview held over the phone rather than face-to-face
Advantages
Time and cost effective
Test verbal communication skills of candidate
Work trials
A work trail is a way of trying out a potential employees before offering them a job. Work trails can last up to 30 days
A successful work trail is expected to lead to employment
Personality tests - psychometric testing
A psychometric test is a way of assessing a person’s personality in a measured and structured way. This type of test is used by employers to help them identify candidates with suitable personality traits for the job
Aptitude and ability tests
These involve completing a sample of the work that the candidate is expected to do.
