recovery position
f the patient is unconscious, but their breathing is normal:
Remove spectacles if patient is wearing them and remove any sharp
objects from pockets (keys, pens etc..)
Take arm that is nearest to you and lift at right angle, allow to drop to
floor and leave where it lies. Don’t force it to the ground as it may
cause injury.
Reach across and lift arm that is furthest away from you, making sure
no rings can cause damage to patient’s face, place hand on patient’s
cheek and hold it there (palm to palm)
Using free hand, lift leg that is furthest away from you up to a right
angle and use as a lever to roll patient on to their side.
Ensure that the shoulder and leg have come fully over, and patient is in
comfortable position
Lift patient’s chin to ensure they have a patent airway.
Monitor patient for up to 30 minutes but if patient is not rousing after
5 or 10 minutes then it would be advisable to call an ambulance at this
stage.
