When are POM entries not required
NHS prescriptions-NEVER
Prescriptions for oral contraceptives-but are made for GOOD PRACTICE
Schedule 2 CDs where a separate for sale or supply has been made in the CD reg-but are made for GOOD PRACTISE
Wholesale supply, where a copy of the order or invoice is retained for 2 Years-but are made for GOOD PRACTISE
So what are POM reg entries made for
PRIVATE PRESCRIPTIONS- legal for all other POMs
SALES BY WAY FOR WHOLESALE- legal if no order or invoice is retained, GOOD PRACTISE IF INVOICE IS RETAINED
emergency supplies at request of a patient AND a prescriber
Details of the POM register
Must be retained in the Pharmacy for 2 Years
May be a bound book or stored on
Inspectors must be able to examine records with minimal disruption prion to operation of the Pharmacy
Records must be made on the same day as the supply or the following day
PRIVATE PRESCRIPTIONS WHAT MUST BE RECORDED
the date on which the POM was sold or supplied
The date on the prescription
The name, quantity and except where it is apparent from the name, the form and strength of the POM sold or supplied
The name and address of the person giving the prescription
The name and address of the person for whom the POM was prescribed
