Receptors and Transportation of Oxygen Flashcards
1
Q
What does the proprioceptor detect?
A
Movement of the body
2
Q
What does the baroreceptor detect?
A
Blood pressure in the arterial wall
3
Q
What are the two stages of oxygen transport?
A
- At the lungs, haemoglobin becomes saturated with oxygen and forms oxyhaemoglobin
- At the muscle site, the reaction is reversible. Oxygen dissociates from haemoglobin at the muscle site
4
Q
Role of myoglobin
A
- Located in muscle cells only
- Role is to store oxygen, ready for exercise
- Becomes saturated with oxygen as it has a very high affinity for oxygen
