Q

Why will the effect of a parasympathetic, post ganglionic neurone be slower than one in the sympathetic NS?

A

Para has muscarinic receptors, Symp has nicotinic (LGIC). Muscarininc are GPCR’s which take longer to produce effect than ligand gated ion channels.

Q

List the receptor super families. Give examples.

A

Ligand gated ion channels (nicotinic ACh receptor). Receptors with intrinsic enzyme activity (insulin receptor). GPCR’s (muscarinic, beta rceptors)
