receptors Flashcards
how do G-coupled protein receptors work?
ADP is bound to the alpha subunit of protein (protein has 3 parts - a b g).
The substrate binds to the extracellular receptor (on a squiggly bit - 8 membrane entries).
ADP is swapped for ATP.
Alpha subunit leaves the G protein and enters into cell.
Interacts with intracellular proteins, producing a response.
When the alpha subunit rejoins with the rest of the protein the response stops.

how do ligand gated receptors work?
- ligand binds
- ion flow
- conformational change
- response
how do nuclear receptors work?
Lipophilic substrate travels across the cell membrane.
Binds to an intracellular receptor.
Receptor travels into the nucleus.
Binds to DNA → response.
