Receptor Classification By Structural Complexity Flashcards
0
Q
What are Simple receptors?
A
General sensory receptors; include
- encapsulated
- nonencapsulated
1
Q
What are the 2 main categories?
A
- Simple
- Complex
2
Q
What are the 3 types of Nonencapsulated receptors
A
- Thermoreceptors
- Nociceptors
- Light Touch Receptors
3
Q
What are the 2 types of Thermoreceptors? Where are they found?
A
- Cold (10-40C) = in superficial dermis.
2. Heat (32-48C) = in deeper dermis.
4
Q
What are Nociceptors?
A
Respond to:
- Pinching
- Inflammatory chemicals from damaged tissue
- Temperature changes outside the range of Thermoreceptors.
- Capsaicin
5
Q
What are Light Touch Receptors?
A
- Merkel discs (light pressure)
- hair follicle receptors
6
Q
What are Encapsulated receptors?
A
All respond as mechanoreceptors
i. e.
- Meissner’s Corpuscle: discriminative touch
- Pacinian Corpuscle: deep pressure & vibration
- Ruffini endings: deep continuous pressure
- Muscle spindles: muscle stretch
- Golgi tendon organs: muscle load
- joint kinesthetic receptors: stretch in synovial joint capsule.
7
Q
What are Complex Receptors?
A
Special sense organs
Vision, hearing, equilibrium, smell & taste
8
Q
What is the organization in Complex Receptors?
A
Specific to special sense organ & polysnaptic.
