When did the Lincolnshire Rising take place?

What caused the Lincolnshire Rebellion?
Tensions had been raised in the region because of the work of three government commissions operating the the county. Dissolving smaller monasteries, collecting subside tax and enforcing new religious laws. However rumours stated they were all corrupt and were after gold, jewels and extra tax.
Where did the Lincolnshire Rising take place?
The Rising began at Louth in Lincolnshire before gathering in Horncastle near Lincoln itself.
How serious was the Lincolnshire Rising?
Anger and violence erupted when the rebels murdered the chancellor of Bishop of Lincoln in a frenzy. As the Rebellion grew members of the gentry joined in as well as priests and even armed monks. At least 10,000 people assembled in Lincoln. Several lists of articles were drawn up.
How was the Lincolnshire Rising handled?
When the Duke of Suffolk’s army arrived, the gentry fled and begged Henry for forgiveness and commons dissipated without the gentries support. The few rebels who remained were sent home when the Kings herald arrived.

What caused the Pilgrimage of Grace?
Popular discontent but for a variety of reasons, for example the Earl of Northumberland was ageing and childless and Henry was pressuring him into leaving his lands to the crown.
Where did the Pilgrimage of Grace take place?
It began in the North around Newcastle and Durham but the rebels travelled south towards York before moving down to Pontefract on 21st October.
How serious was the Pilgrimage of Grace?
Robert Aske led 30,000 men, they travelled to Pontefract where Lord Darcy handed over Pontefract Castle the most important castle of the North.
Aske demonstrated discipline and controlled leadership by insisting his army did not pillage but instead payed for their goods.
How was the Pilgrimage of Grace handled?
Henry sent a delegation to meet the rebels and receive their demands. They signed a truce stating that they would discuss matters further at a second meeting with Henry himself present. At the next meeting all of the rebel leaders were rounded up and executed.
