What caused the Simnel Rebellion?

Where did the Simnel Rebellion take place?
The army crossed England and was defeated at the battle of Stoke in 1487
How serious was the Simnel Rebellion?
Simnel was spotted by a priest due to his similarities to Edward, Earl of Warwick. He was taken to Ireland and the Yorkist lords proclaimed him King Edward VI. The Rebellion became more serious by Margret of Burgundy who offered support, 2000 mercenaries and John de la Pole (yorkist claimant) who joined the rebels. The rebels marched through Cumbria, hoping to gain support this was unsuccessful.
How did Henry handle the Simnel Rebellion?
Henry immediately produced the real Earl of Warwick to demonstrate that Simnel was a fake. Henry’s 12,000 men army met the 8,000 rebel troops in Stoke and succeeded in giving the rebels a heavy defeat. John de la Pole was killed, Simnel was offered work in the royal kitchens.
When was the Battle of Stoke?
1487
What caused the Yorkshire Rebellion?
Tax Rebellion caused by Henry’s attempt to raise money for the Brittany Campaign.
Why did the people of Yorkshire think the tax was unfair?
They’d had a bad harvest.
Traditionally, people in the south funded the wars with France while the northern counties funded the conflicts with the Scots.
Also some counties had been made except from the tax on grounds of poverty.
How serious was the Yorkshire Rebellion?
It was far from London, put down easily and most leaders were executed.
However it required royal force to be put down, the Earl of Northumberland was murdered on his return home from discussing the Rebellion with the King, and Henry did not collect the tax for fear of another Rebellion.
What became of the Brittany tax?
Henry did not receive any more tax. The total national collection was £27,000 which was far short of the 100,000 voted for by Parliament.
What caused the Cornish Rebellion?
A second tax Rebellion caused by Henry’s attempts to raise money to defend the North against a possible Scottish invasion to support Warbeck.
