REBA Flashcards
what is the REBA
an ergonomic postural assessment tool that evaluates the risks associated with job related tasks
who was the REBA created for?
health-care and other service industry professionals, who commonly display unpredictable and high risk body postures throughout their work day
5 variables that are assessed with the REBA
- body posture
- forces used
- type of movement or action
- repetition
- coupling
2 tasks involved in preparing the REBA
- observation
2. selection of postures for assessment
2 steps of the observation process
- Interview employee to gain knowledge of their job tasks and demands
- Observe employee and for each task take note of the workplace environment, equipment used, impact of the task, and their behaviour
4 variables that are considered when selecting postures for assessment
- most frequently repeated posture
- most difficult postures
- postures with highest force/load
- extreme, unstable or awkward postures
what is baseline posture for REBA
anatomically neutral position
what happens as posture moves away from anatomical position
risk increases
the assessment is broken down into 2 groups: what are they?
A- trunk, neck ,and legs
B- upper arm, lower arm, and wrist (all scored separately for left and right side)
what risk is associated with this REBA score?
1
negligible risk
what risk is associated with this REBA score?
2/3
low risk, change may be needed
what risk is associated with this REBA score?
4-7
medium risk, further investigation, changes soon
what risk is associated with this REBA score?
8-10
high risk, investigate and implement changes
what risk is associated with this REBA score?
11+
very high risk, implement changes, stop doing that right now
what do you do after modifications have been made int he work place? and why?
reassess these tasks and compare new REBA scores with old REBA scores
- allows you to determine the effectiveness of the intervention and whether further modification need to be made
