What are the subcategories in the real number system?
Rational, integers, whole, natural, and irrational
What is a natural number?
Any whole number after zero
(Not including zero)
i.e.=1,2,3,4…
What is a whole number?
Any number after zero
Zero included
What is an integers?
Any whole number that includes numbers before zero
i.e.=-1,-2,-3
What is a rational number?
Any integer that includes decimals and fractions
Must be terminating or repeating decimals
What is an irrational number?
Any decimal that dies not terminate or repeat
Includes all forms of Infinity
What type of number is Pi(π)?
An irrational
What type of number is -17?
An integer and rational number
What is the only irrational number that is not a decimal?
Positive and negative Infinity
What do two negative numbers added equal? Multiplied?
Added: a negative
Multiplied: a positive
What do a negative and positive number equal when added? Multiplied?
Added: if the positive is “larger” then positive and vice versa
Multiplied: negative
What numbers do not fall in the real number category?
Imaginary number
Complex have a real number part
Why do complex numbers fall in the imaginary and real category(31+9i)?
They have a real number part and an imaginary part
What are some irrational numbers
(not including Pi)?
Phi, Infinity, square root of 2,…
What is Phi(Φ)?
It is an irrational number
