Numbers Flashcards
What are brown numbers?
A pair of numbers where X!+1=Y^2
Examples: (4,5) (5,11) and (7,71) (these are the only Brown pairs)
What is Graham’s Number?
The biggest number used in a problem
3^3^3^3…(64 times later)^3
How big is Infinity?
It is both the largest and smallest “number” in math.
What are Fibonacci numbers?
A series of numbers where the next equals the sum of the past two.
1,1,2,3,5,8,13…
What does ! mean when following a number?
Factorial
i.e. 4!=123*4
What makes a number “perfect”?
It is perfect when it is the sum of it’s factors.
i.e.=6:1,2,3
What is the point if the math game, Four is Cosmic?
The point is to make all numbers equal to four by using the amount of letters in their spelling.
5->4
What are binary numbers?
Binary numbers are numbers that use only the symbols 0 & 1.
About how many Infinities are there?
There are infinite Infinities.
What is a googol and googolplex
A googol is 10^100.
A googolplex is ten to the power of googol.
What are any three points?
Coplaner
What makes a number prime?
It only has two factors, itself and one.
What is special about prime numbers, addition wise?
Every number is a sum of two or more prime numbers, the same goes for Fibonacci numbers and powers of two.
What does it mean when a number has | | around it?
It means to find it’s absolute value, or distance away from zero.
What is the value of absolute zero?
0 degrees Kelvin, or about -450 degrees Fahrenheit.
What are binary numbers used for and why?
They are used in programming because they stand for true(on) and false(off)
What is the decimal system?
It is the system used for all math with the symbols 0-9
In the decimal system what are the two major categories that all numbers fall under?
Real numbers and imaginary/complex numbers
What are imaginary numbers?
The square root of any negative number.
i.e.=the square root of -1 is i
What is a complex number?
A number that has a real number and a complex number
i.e.=25+6i
What are the subcategories in the real number system?
Rational, Integers, Whole, Natural,
And Irrational
What makes a number fall under the rational category?
It is either a whole number(3), a fraction(1/5), a terminating decimal(1.65), or repeating decimal(1.4444…)
What puts a number in the Irrational category?
It is decimal that neither terminates or repeats, or it a square root of an imperfect square(with the exception of infinity).
What is Pi?
It is the relationship between the circle’s circumference and area.
3.14…
What is Phi?
It is the “Golden Ratio”
1/the square root of 5
1.28…
