primary vs secondary context
primary - artifacts found in original place
secondary - artifacts that have been moved
superposition
layers of canyons and cliffs are organized so that older layers lie beneath newer layers
relative vs absolute dating methods
Relative - date in relation to smtg e.g. layers of soil where lower = older
Absolute - gives a more accurate age range, chemical or physical age range
naturalism
seeks to understand the natural world via observation of nature
Salvage anthropology
collecting of indigenous artifacts
armchair anthropology
method of doing research without fieldwork. Rely on other materials and documents.
ethnology
study of differences and relationships between ppls, societies and cultures.
features in archeology
cultural objects found at site that aren’t portable. E.g. temple
repatriation
process of giving back ceremonial objects to original culture.
