Reading for 10-3 Flashcards
At the wax try-in appt it is easier to make adjustments why?
- teeth are still in wax
- after they are set, it is nearly impossible to correct
If retention is a problem during the try-in appt, what can you use to make sure the try-in will stay?
-adhesive
If there is contact when in VDR, how do you decrease VDO?
-remove posterior teeth and create new CR record if desired decrease is greater than 2mm
If you have to create a new CR record in order to get correct reduction of VDO how does your mounting need to change??
-remount on articulator
If there is too much interocclusal distance, what is the next step?
-create new CR record, no need to remove teeth
If you are within 2mm of being correct, can you make the correction on the articulator?
- yes
- studies have show a negligible error would be present from making this minor change
How may a class II skeletal relationship affect the clearance of the try-ins?
-may have what seems to be excessive vertical and horizontal clearance due to normal relationships of the residual ridges in that skeletal position
How may a class III skeletal relationship affect the clearance of the try-ins?
- may exhibit almost no interocclusal distance during speech
- this must be taken into account when evaluating function of the prostheses
If using wax to take verification record, what temp must the denture be heated in water to soften the wax?
-130*F
What is the verification record used for?
-to determine that the horizontal position of the mounted dentures are correct
What kinds of occlusal schemes require eccentric records?
-complex occlusal schemes
What are eccentric records?
- protrusive position records
- lateral position records
- captures relative angle of the articular eminence as the condyle travels down the slope
Lateral position records are best taken at what stage?
- when teeth are present
- allows for adjustments to be made before processing and also will provide for proper articulator setting for the insertion or placement appt.
Midline, shade and other esthetic factors, such as individual tooth position preferences, diastemas and personalized esthetic concers should be evaluated and corrected before what?
-patient review of wax trial insertion
What other considerations need to be done at the try-in appt.?
- custom gingival denture base shade selection
- sign consent form
