What are the different elements to scan for in a passage in the RC section?
Topic, scope, purpose and main idea.
What are the wrong answer types for RC questions?
1) Outside the scope, 2) Extreme, 3) Distortion, 4) 180, 5) Faulty Use of Detail, 6) Half-Right/Half-Wrong
What are the different types of keywords in RC passages?
Emphasis/opinion: especially, crucial, unfortunately, disappointing, I suggest, it seems likely
Contrast: but, yet, despite
Logic: thus, therefore, because
Illustration: for example, this shows, to illustrate
Sequence/chronology: traditionally, in the past, today, first, second, finally, earlier, since
Continuation: moreover, in addition, also, further
What are the RC passage types?
Theory/Perspective, Event/Phenomenon, Biography, Debate
What are the RC question types?
Global, inference, detail, logic function, logic reasoning
How can a global question be identified?
If it includes “main point”, “primary purpose”, “organization”, “title”.
How can a detail question be identified?
If it includes, “according to”, “passage states”, “author mentions”.
How can an inference question be identified?
If it includes, “author implies”, “passage suggests”, “inferred”, “likely to agree with”, “author’s attitude”.
How can a logic function question be identified?
If it includes, “function”, “primarily in order to”, “for the purpose of”.
How can a logic reasoning question be identified?
If it includes, “supports”, “undermines”, “principle”, “analogous”.
What are the main research clues in RC passages?
Line reference, paragraph reference, quoted text, proper nouns, content clues.
