Literal Rule
Must enforce plain meaning even if it leads to absurd results
Golden Rule
Literal interpretation must be rejected if it would lead to an absurd result

only interpret literally if aligned with the policy of the legislation as a whole

Broad Construction to effectuate purpose
Want it to apply to as many people as possible to get the maximum benefit from the remedial statute
Specific v. General Statutes
When two or more statutes could be construed to govern the same issue, the more specific statute shall be applied
