Reactivity Flashcards
What is the reactivity series from most to least reactive.
- Potassium (K)
- Sodium (Na
- Calcium (Ca)
- Magnesium(Mg)
- Aluminium (Al)
- Zinc(Zn)
- Iron(Fe)
- Copper (Cu)
What happens when Potassium is heated in air?
Burns with lilac flame, forming a white solid
What happens when sodium is heated in air?
Burns with a yellow/orange flame, forming a white solid
What happens when calcium burns in air?
Burns with a brick red flame, forming white solid
What happens when magnesium burns in air?
Burns with a bright, white light, forms white solid
What happens when aluminium burns in air?
Burns only when finely powdered, forms white solid
What happens when zinc is heated in air?
Burns steadily, forms yellow solid which becomes white when cooling
What happens when iron burns in air?
Burns with orange sparks when in the form of filings, forming black solid
What happens when copper is heated in air?
Doesn’t burn but forms black solid
