What is reactive arthritis
An autoimmune inflammatory condition triggered by an infection characterised by usually self limiting inflation of one or more joints
What is the clinical diagnosis of reactive arthritis based on
The development of a typical mono or oligoarthritis developing 10-14 days after being triggered by a gastrointestinal or genitouri- nary infection
List some of the clinical features of reactive arthritis
- Monoarthritis or oligoarthritis of a large joint or multiple joint occurs usually the knee
- Triggering infection by Campylobacter or Salmonella, can be identified in up to 50% of cases
- Reiter’s syndrome may be found
- Viral infections
What is Reiter’s syndrome
An association of reactive arthritis with conjunctivitis and urethritis
What can Reiter’s syndrome be associated with
A rash of the hands and feet
List soem of the symptoms of reactive arthritis
Pain and morning stiffness in the affected joints
What can improve symptoms of reactive arthritis
Exercise or NSAIDs
How can reactive arthritis be managed
Usually self limiting
NSAIDs can be beneficial for pain management
