Reactions In Plants Flashcards
Photosynthesis
Is a series of chemical reactions that takes place in the leaves of a plant. The energy is transferred by light and becomes stored in glucose.
Only happens during daytime
Equation of photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide + water —> glucose + oxygen
What substance is found in leaves in order for the plant to photosynthesise?
Chloroplasts with chlorophyll
Limiting factors
Variable that slows down the rate.
- > less light, photosynthesis slower
- > shortage of raw materials, photosynthesis slower
Aerobic respiration
A type of respiration in which oxygen is used to release energy from substances, such as glucose.
Glucose + oxygen —> carbon dioxide + water
Happens all the time
Phloem vessels
Chains of phloem cells that carry the glucose dissolved in water all around the plant.
-> this is how roots get glucose for respiration.
Where is oxygen obtained from?
The soil including potassium, nitrates and water
