Plant Adaptations Flashcards
1
Q
How are mineral salts obtained?
A
By the roots, which also holds the plant in place.
2
Q
Adapted to get WATER(4)
A
- > Roots are branched and spread out
- > Have Root Hair Cells which have a large surface area
- > xylem cells create xylem vessels, hollow and waterproof tubes. It is also rigid to hold in place. Transport minerals to all the plant.
- > epidermis cells-> creates cuticle which is waterproof so the plant does not lose water
3
Q
Why does a plant need water?(3)
A
- > photosynthesis
- > keeping leaves cool
- > filling up of cells to keep expanded and firm. If not, it wilts.
4
Q
Adapted to get LIGHT(2)
A
- > leaves have a large surface area for trapping light
- > palisade cells-> lots of chloroplasts
5
Q
Adapted to get CARBON DIOXIDE(3)
A
- > stomata-> small holes in a leaf that are opened and closed by guard cells.
- > gases enter and leave by diffusion
- > allows gas exchange-> swapping of different gases
