Reactions Flashcards
What are reactants?
The chemicals that are reacted together in the reaction.
What are the products?
The chemicals that are produced in a reaction.
What is the rate of reaction?
How quickly the reaction occurs.
What can cause a change in the rate of reaction?
Temperature, Surface area, Concentration and Pressure.
Why does temperature increase rate of reaction?
The particles move around quicker. This means that collisions and reactions are happening Faster.
Why does pressure and concentration increase rate of reaction?
There are more particles in a smaller space, increasing the chance of particles colliding and reacting.
Why does surface area increase the rate of reaction?
Increased surface area means that there are more particles exposed sooner to reacting.
What is an endothermic reaction?
It is a reaction that gains energy or heat when the reaction takes place.
What is an exothermic reaction?
It is a reaction that decreases in energy or heat when the reaction takes place.
What is activation energy?
It is the amount of energy that is required in order for the reaction to start.
