REACTIONS Flashcards
1
Q
What is quantitative analysis?
A
is the determination of the amount of substance present in a given sample.
2
Q
State 2 chemical quantitative analysis methods?
A
- gravimetric and volumetric
3
Q
Describe gravimetric analysis.
A
The ion which is needed to be analysed is converted into a insoluble salt of known composition that can be separated from the sample and reweighed.
4
Q
What are some conditions of gravimetric analysis.
A
- ion to be analysed must be completely precipitated.
- precipitate must be a pure compound
- precipitate must be easily filtered out.
5
Q
Steps of gravimetric analysis.
A
- prepare a solution containing known weight of the sample.
- separate the desired ion by precipitation
- weigh the isolated precipitate
- find the amount of the particular constituent in the sample from the weight and composition of the precipitate obtained.
